If global warming is causing freezing weather, does this mean that global cooling causes global warming?

Florencio Dingle: Erm Global warming means the Earth is getting warmer not the other way round. If glaciers are melting do you think that's due to cold weather. No it's not, it's cos of warmer weather.

Son Ahlers: Goofinoff actually has it mostly right. for one, localized weather is not the same as climatic trend. you can use logic to differentiate the two (or can you?). secondly, in the areas where cold weather is abundant this winter are, get ready for this, near the ocean! (Europe) Greenland's melting land and sea ice is decreasing the salinity and temperature of the ocean. this affects ocean currents which are a major proponent to extreme weather. for example, when we have an El Nino Southern Oscillation, some latitudes receive drought while others receive monsoon rains. here's more on how the El Nino works and what it does. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Ni%C3%B1o-Southern...so presuming you are experiencing a very cold winter, I have been experiencing a very ! warm winter. neither prove or disprove the theory of AGW. localized weather is not the same as change in climatic trend. but you already learned that right? :)...Show more

Phillip Modafferi: Global Warming is a natural occurrence that comes in steps. Step one is the warm weather, step two is freezing. FACT: The polar icecaps are reforming.

Lynn Mctier: >>If global warming is causing freezing weather,No one said that it's causing *ANY* weather... It can affect weather, though.>>does this mean that global cooling causes global warming? That doesn't even make sense. Do you mean "would global cooling cause warmer weather? The answer is still no.>>The climate alarmists and global warming theorists are now saying that global warming is causing the glaciers to melt which in turn is causing all of this freezing weather here in the US.No they aren't. They are saying that the melting arctic polar ice cap is causing the jet stream to fluctuate. That means that it's inf! luencing the weather, not causing it. (no, that's not the onl! y influence)>>So wouldn't this mean that if we had global cooling, which should cause the glaciers to not melt, does this mean that the global cooling should actually cause global warming?No... Again.Global warming is the average temperature over the surface of the Earth increasing over a period of time. That period of time can vary, but is generally best if measured over decades. You're talking about months. If you want to talk about months and just in the US, what about last spring or last Fall? _...Show more

Samara Siewers: For one thing, its now called climate change, not global warming, and the ice caps ARE melting, a chunk the size of rhode island recently broke off. and suck it up, come to Canada and you'll feel real cold. also, the ice caps are NOT reforming, rather, its winter. but things are getting cold because of a cycle of global warming. consider yourself lucky in the U.S. when things heat up 1 degree down south, that's 12 degrees in our arctic. but ! i dont expect anyone in the US to do anything because theirs to many ignorant people their, and yes i know everyone will call me ignorant for saying that, but everyone that does will be from the US and im right....Show more

Raye Tredennick: Global Warming isn't causing the freezing weather. Winter normally brings cold weather. And this winter is special because of Negative Arctic Oscillation. The frigid air that normally stays in the arctic during the winter months is being brought down to the United States by this weather phenomena. http://nsidc.org/arcticmet/patterns/arctic_oscilla......Show more

Shane Getler: Better than "global warming" is the term "climate change," which means more volatile weather. Overall, average temperatures are warming, but at the same time we have more extremes. But melting glaciers do cool the ocean, plus they lower the salt content. These changes affect ocean currents, a major contributor to weather. This results in colder wint! ers.

Irvin Guiles: Oi Goy!See the (hi-def) video, called "HOME", ! It's about our earth, global warming, the earth and us and it does support the position presented in your second paragraph...Enjoy!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqxENMKaeCU

Nelly Kikuchi: The global warming alarmists will try to blame everything they can on global warming even when it shows their fears are illogical. The statement that melting icecaps will lead to a mini ice age is true it has happened in the past. the period around 900-1250 was the medieval warm period. Crop records and ice core samples show the climate was warmer than it is now. After a couple centuries the melting icecaps disrupted ocean's currents since fresh water melting from the glaciers was lighter and colder than the salt water from the equator it pooled and lowered global temperature after a while the icecaps started to freeze. So the currents alone would produce a warm and cold cycle naturally. SInce the planet has been through a lot of climate changes on it's own it is abit idiotic for the! greenies to be yelling the sky is falling and prophesying long term doom. If they were concerned they should pay more attention to short term issues where you can claim victory after a few years such as the state of the world's fisheries or toxic smog in cities around the world. An area where the US and europe lead the world. However it is not about healthy living it is about control so they try to tackle these "big" issues we don't have enough knowledge to even know if they exists. The global warming alarmists are simply green because they are to yellow to admit their red....Show more

Davida Gisriel: Ask your science teacherNo just kiddingU can blame cold weather on el nine but el nine is occurring more because of global warming
