driving a car w/ a registration NOT yet under my name, is it legal?

Queenie Ruthers: You cannot legally drive a car that is registered to someone else. The "someone else" can sue you for doing so and putting him at risk.

Edmund Rappley: sorry if the tags are good then car is good to drive unless it has not insurance on it and yes they both have to be there to sign papers and yes you cant do anything til then but as for driving car if the tags are in date then its legal to be on the road for anyone who is driving it but might not be covered by her insurance really id just wait a week or two til she comes back

Myriam Hetjonk: if you can sign the title and get a copy of it and a receipt that you paid for the car carry this info with you and proof of insurance then you should have thirty days to drive then car on ur old plates just like buying a used car else were.

Toshia Metzker: You cannot register the car in your name until both owners sign the title. Wait until Mom gets home. There is no way in the world that you could ! have gotten insurance on a car that you do not legally own. Park it until Mom gets home to sign the title so that you can do the registration and the notary stuff. You are welcome.

Donte Schoenhals: Legal yes. You won't be arrested or get a ticket as long as you have proof that the car is insured. Smart no. The insurance company could refuse to pay for any damage or injuries you cause. Your parents might have to pay everything out of pocket, possibly losing everything they own. At best if you have an accident the insurance would pay but your parents would be hit with a huge increase in the cost of insurance.

Chris Wilczewski: This is illegal to do because in the eyes of the law the car is still not yours.

Melvin Nakama: It's a bit of a gray area, but if you have the title, showing you have bought the car, and have put insurance on it in your name, you should be able to drive it while waiting for the paper work to catch up.If the title is in the name of the ! friend you bought it from, mom won't need to be present. If b! oth names are present, and the word between the two names is "OR" mom won't need to be present. If and only if both names are present and "AND" is between them will she need to be present.Good luck....Show more
