Len Bormes: You are driving legally. You personally don't need insurance on the car, you don't own the car to begin with. When your father lets you drive the car then you are covered on his policy, the insurance company already takes into account the age of drivers in the household, so he is already paying for you. He could endorsement the auto policy to list your name too, but really there is no need. You are under 18, living with him, so you are good to go.
Garrett Detone: Your father must have you listed as a regular driver on his policy, which means he pays extra for you. If you are not listed and you cause an accident, the insurance company will refuse to pay for your car, the other persons's car, and any medical bills. In that case, the other person would sue your father for possibly thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands, of dollars. Not a smart thing to do.
