Study abroad, homesickness?

Lanita Reichman: I think you should get into the program in if it really interests you and can have good effect on you.I can understand your homesickness but eventually you will explore for your own world. One full semester wouldn't be so bad. Find new friends, learn new knowledge and have different experience is a great chance to take the first step to explore your won world. And it doesn't mean that you won't be able to communicate with your family at all, you can still contact through phone or internet. As an international student I recommend you to do so....Show more

Dexter Dingus: The problem with a semester program is that it gives you just enough time to get into culture shock and not enough time to get out of it. It's really better to go for a whole year. You'd be surprised how quickly it passes. But for whatever time you go, you can talk to your family as much as you want by Skyping- for free. There's really no reason to be homesick any more.

Marty Tich! nell: The longest time I was away from home was when I studied abroad, and homesickness was definitely a problem for me. I didn't just miss my family and friends, but even my country and my life there. It was really challenging, but the more you develop a life abroad, the easier it gets. My advice is to dive into a full semester, taking advantage of everything the program offers and making as many friends as you can. It really is the experience of a lifetime.
