My Car got hit and I want repairs done through insurance?

Lillie Yarde: You must not watch People's Court or Judge Judy. they have cases like this all the time. If you are in an accident, and the other driver hits you, their insurance pays for the repairs. YOU choose where to have the repairs done. Usually, you obtain three estimates and their insurance company will psy for the repair at that facility. You never have to take your car to a shop because the other driver's cousin own it or works there. They are trying to get by on the cheap.

Babette Deloe: You should have a choice. They can't damage your car and force you into going to a crappy mechanic.

Tory Clapper: If you have the car repaired before the insurance company sees it there is a very good chance they will not pay for anything, you can take it to the garage and have them give you an estimate, if thier estimate is drastically different than yours you may be able to fight that but whatever you do dont fix anything until the insurance company comes and! takes a look, this is all of course depending on the fact that you have full coverage cause if you have basic they dont cover deers. good luck PS the insurance companies all have a book to go by tells the cost of the parts and the amount of time that it should take to fix it and a base rate of labor thats what they go by there not out to screw anyone...Show more

Shamika Schools: You have the right to choose your own shop. Insurance companies will recommend shops, but you're not obligated to accept them.

Seema Hosfeld: According to the law in most states, you are entitled to have your car repaired at the shop of your choice. However, if it were me, I would work through my own insurance company if I had collision coverage. File a claim with your own company and get your car fixed now. Let them sort out the details with the other company. This is why you pay insurance - to represent you in the case of an accident.
